Sightseeing in Fukuoka

Fukuoka’s world-class modern facilities co-exist comfortably with its traditional cultural delights.

The first stop on most people’s lists is the Dazaifu Shrine, the oldest Tenmangu shrine in Japan. This beautiful complex offers enough for a full day trip, but don’t forget to visit the zen gardens nearby, or the national musem around the corner.

The Momochi seaside area was built on reclaimed land to host the 1989 Asia Pacific Exposition, and is now a tourist center containing one of Japan’s tallest towers, Fukuoka Tower, a giant baseball stadium with retractable roof, beach/leisure area, museums, and more.

Ohori Park, very close to the center of the city, is one of the biggest urban parks in Japan, and contains an art gallery, beautiful Japanese gardens, and the ruins of Fukuoka Castle. It is surpassed only by Uminonakamichi, a giant park complex with water park, marine world, zoo and more.
