令和8年熊本地震で被災された皆さまへ GenkiJACS福岡校の願い。(ENGLISH FOLLOWS)
このたびの令和8年熊本地震により被災されたすべての皆さまに、心よりお見舞い申し上げます。
また、この地震により尊い命を失われた方々のご冥福を心よりお祈りするとともに、ご遺族の皆さまに深い哀悼の意を表します。
2026年7月28日16時27分頃、熊本県熊本地方を震源とするマグニチュード7.1の地震が発生し、宇城市と氷川町で最大震度7を観測しました。
ここ福岡校でも大きな揺れを感じ、安全を確保するため授業を一時中断しました。福岡市内の公共交通機関にも一時影響が出るなど、九州の広い範囲が強い揺れに見舞われました。
熊本は、2016年にも大規模な地震によって甚大な被害を受けました。熊本の象徴である熊本城も大きく傷つき、その後、地域の皆さまと国内外からの支援に支えられながら、長い年月をかけて復旧・復興への歩みが続けられてきました。あれから10年という節目を迎えた中で、再び大きな地震が発生したことに、胸が締めつけられる思いです。
さらに現在、熊本では厳しい暑さが続いています。一部の地域では停電や断水など生活基盤への影響も生じており、被災された方々は、猛暑の中、不安を抱えながら日々を過ごされています。復旧作業や避難生活における体調への影響も、強く懸念されています。
私たち福岡校は、これまで何度も熊本県の皆さまにお世話になってきました。
メキシコからの団体やサマーキャンプの学生たちとの小旅行では、毎年のように熊本を訪れてきました。
学生たちは熊本の美しい景色や文化に触れ、現地の方々の温かさに支えられながら、かけがえのない思い出をつくってきました。この記事を読んでくださっている皆さまの中にも、熊本を訪れ、その魅力や人々の優しさに触れた方が多くいらっしゃることと思います。
私たちの学生を迎え、支えてくださった熊本の方々が、今、この災害によって苦しい状況に置かれていることを思うと、いたたまれない気持ちでいっぱいです。
―私たちに、今できることはないだろうか。
―被災された方々が一日も早く安心できる日常を取り戻すために、少しでも力になれないだろうか。
そのような思いから、福岡校では募金活動を始めることにいたしました。
この活動を通じて、一人でも多くの方に熊本の現状を知っていただき、それぞれのできる形で心を寄せていただければと願っています。
消防庁の発表によると、7月31日10時30分時点で、今回の地震により35名の方が亡くなられています。突然の災害によって大切なご家族を失われた方々の悲しみは、到底計り知れるものではありません。改めまして、亡くなられた方々のご冥福を心よりお祈り申し上げます。※なお、被害状況は今後も変わる可能性があります
GenkiJACSには、これまで世界中から多くの学生が集まり、ともに学び、国や文化を越えたつながりを育んできました。
私たちが築いてきたこの絆を、今度は福岡校の隣県である熊本の復旧・復興と、被災された方々を支える力につなげたいと願っています。
現在、熊本県では、被災された方々を支援するための義援金を受け付けています。

To Everyone Affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake
～A Message of Hope from GenkiJACS Fukuoka～
We would like to express our deepest sympathy to everyone affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake.
We also offer our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and to their bereaved families.
At approximately 4:27 p.m. on July 28, 2026, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the Kumamoto region of Kumamoto Prefecture. The earthquake registered a maximum intensity of 7 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale in the cities of Uki and Hikawa.
The earthquake was also strongly felt here at our Fukuoka school. To ensure everyone’s safety, we temporarily suspended classes. Public transportation services in Fukuoka City were also disrupted, as powerful tremors were felt across a wide area of Kyushu.
Kumamoto suffered extensive damage from another major earthquake in 2016. Kumamoto Castle, an important symbol of the region, was also severely damaged. In the years since, the people of Kumamoto have continued the long process of recovery and reconstruction with the support of communities and individuals from Japan and around the world. As Kumamoto reached the tenth anniversary of the 2016 earthquake and continued to move forward in its recovery, it was struck once again by a major disaster. Our hearts ache for everyone facing this hardship.
Kumamoto is also currently experiencing extremely hot summer weather. In some areas, damage to essential services, including electricity and water supplies, has made conditions even more difficult. Many of those affected are spending each day in uncertainty while enduring the intense heat, and there are serious concerns about the physical and emotional strain caused by evacuation and recovery efforts.
Over the years, we at GenkiJACS Fukuoka have received tremendous support and kindness from the people of Kumamoto.
We have visited Kumamoto many times on excursions with our students, including groups from Mexico and participants in our summer camp programs. Our students have experienced Kumamoto’s beautiful scenery and rich culture, and have created precious memories through the warmth and hospitality of the local community.
Many of those reading this message may also have visited Kumamoto and experienced its beauty and the kindness of its people firsthand.
It is deeply distressing to think that the people who welcomed and supported our students may now be suffering because of this disaster.
-Is there anything we can do to help?
-Is there any way we can support those affected so that they may regain a safe and peaceful daily life as soon as possible?
With these thoughts in mind, GenkiJACS Fukuoka has decided to begin a fundraising campaign.
Through this initiative, we hope to help more people understand the current situation in Kumamoto and encourage them to offer their support in whatever way they can.
According to information released by the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, 35 people had lost their lives as of 10:30 a.m. on July 31. The grief of those who have suddenly lost beloved family members in this disaster is beyond measure.
Once again, we offer our deepest condolences and sincerely pray for the souls of those who have passed away. *Please note that the reported figures and extent of the damage may continue to change.
At GenkiJACS, we have welcomed students from around the world and built meaningful connections by learning together across nationalities, languages, and cultures.
We sincerely hope that the bonds we have formed can now become a source of support for Kumamoto, our neighboring prefecture, and for everyone affected by this earthquake.
