GenkiJACS Okinawa is Officially Open and Running!
At long last, the newest member of our Genki Japanese school family has been born! GenkiJACS Okinawa proudly accepted its first group of students on June 16th, and opened a new chapter on the decades-spanning Genki saga.

While Sakumi-sensei is a veteran of our Tokyo school, our new staff members Mirei-sensei and Mutsuki-san were a little nervous to make a good first impression on students, but their extensive training and natural wonderfulness gave them the confidence they needed, and students seemed to have a great time. Don’t they look good in their matching Okinawa-style “kariyushi” shirts!

We also took students on the first cultural experience and marine activities outings. Culture class students made clay “shisa” dog figures (a local symbol), learned to play Sanshin (a local stringed instrument) and made kachuuyu (a local food). A busy day!

Marine Activities students learned stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and snorkelled with tropical fish, and even a very friendly sea snake! Both groups report they really enjoyed themselves.

We can’t wait to welcome more of you to Okinawa. See you on the beach!
