Kimono wearing experience
Have you ever wanted to wear traditional Japanese attire and stroll around the city? Try wearing the elegant, very traditional formal attire of ancient Japan. The day may start with you being just normal you, wearing jeans, sneakers/trainers and a hat maybe. At the end of the class, you will have experienced what it is like to feel history and tradition literally on your own skin. The way you carry yourself will change, you will learn how to walk wearing Zori or Geta. Maybe by the end of the class, you might want to get your own kimono!
Meditation takes many forms. Some of them can be done through your smartphone in the comfort of your home, but it doesn't get more pure than going to a Zen temple and having a go at it the traditional way. Learn the correct way to sit and empty your mind for a little bit of the busy day. Zazen helps you quiet your mind, forget your worries and even forget yourself for a little while. Learn the tranquillity of listening to the sound of your breathing and the steps of the ever-vigilant Buddhist monk who is there to make sure that all is done according to tradition. At the end of the class, you will get a cup of tea and a snack!
This isn't your usual drumming. Taiko is actually a mixture of martial arts and music and it is practised at a dojo and with the same energy and dedication as any other martial arts of Japan! Pick up the drumsticks, assume the drumming Kamae (stance) and join the heartbeat of Japan!
Japanese Paper Making
Japanese paper or Washi is world famous and there is a very good reason for that! The same creation method has been used for generations. Technology has made some of the process a little faster, but the basics are still the same as they've always been. In this class, you will actually get the hands-on experience of making Japanese paper. It is an incredibly rare opportunity. And to top it off you will get to take the sheet of paper you made home with you!
